About Me

My Academic career started in an unconventional way. People are usually surprised to hear that school never came easy for me. I barely passed high school and was told by my guidance counsellor that university would not be for me. So, I of course had to do it!

I started taking open studies courses at Langara Collage in Vancouver BC, fell in love with school for the first time in my life, and was addicted to learning. After two years at Langara I applied to become a student at MacEwan University to study anthropology. I always wanted to be an archaeologist, however, my English literature classes were the ones that I couldn’t get enough of. In my third year I changed my major and I graduated with a BA in English Literature.

I decided to pursue my Masters at Athabasca University because of the freedom it allowed me continue to work for myself and grow my business. Also, and most importantly, because Athabasca allows me to take an interdisaplinary approach to my research question.

Over the last year and a half I have worked at The Antarctic Institute of Canada which gave me the opportunity to co-authored two books, contributed to anthologies and published research papers on various topics during my time working with the company.

In the future I plan to purse my PhD and continue my academic career. It’s important to me to continue to take an interdisciplinary approach in my research as I look to understand the link between our perception and understanding of history and fiction. Literature is an expression of history, culture, beliefs, and current events. I believe that literature needs to be studied in order to understand our society and all the different cultures and histories within it.
